Another College Rant

For some reason people all have this set path. Go through grade school, go to college, then get a job. This path does work for a lot of people, but some can't go to college because of certain circumstances. I just wonder when it became a requirement, to be successful in life, to go to college. Or when did everyone just stop thinking about what they really want? When did they lose their passion for their dreams? I know a lot of people can achieve those dreams by going to school but not everyone can, and often it's a big waste of time and money to go.

I know this because I used to think like that too. Finish high school and go to college. But last night I thought about how I never really knew what I'd study, like I'd just start and figure it out when I got there. But that doesn't make any sense when you think about it. Because what if you decide you want to do something like cooking. That doesn't really require a degree to be successful and you can learn new techniques by watching other cooks or taking small cooking classes. But people still spend all their time in college mostly wasting their money to get what society says they need. It's really quite sad.

For me personally, I wouldn't have been where I am now if it weren't for Michael Jackson's death. I would probably be in an expensive art school or culinary school, since that's what my options were. if i were to go to college, that is. The thing is though that I enjoy those things but I don't have the drive to do them all the time. I don't have the passion for them like I do for singing. So I couldn't do that now either because I know what I want to do with my life now.

My family is still pushing for me to go and the more they push the more I don't want to. And I'm almost 100% sure that if I do go they wouldn't even be happy with my degree and I wouldn't be happy with my life.
